Go Trout Fishing in Duluth This Summer

This summer is the perfect opportunity to get out and do a little fishing.  Minnesota is home to an incredible variety of lakes and streams suitable for fishing. Trout Fishing in Streams Near Duluth

Duluth is truly a fisherman’s dream. Throughout the year, you’ll find fishing poles tilted above Duluth’s waterways, which are abundant with salmon and trout. The following list includes several trout fishing streams, each an ideal place for the avid fisherman to spend the day. Each river provides the desired conditions for trout habitat, which includes cold, oxygen-rich water, and coarse sediment along the bottom of the stream, which provides the fish ample hiding places. Though there are 16 designated trout streams in Duluth, we’ve narrowed the list down to 10 of the most popular.

1. Lester River is a great place to find young steelhead and the occasional brown or brook trout.  During the fall months, it’s also a great place to find large adult salmon, steelhead, and rainbow trout that have come in from Lake Superior.
2. Amit Creek is a tributary of the Lester River and can be a great place to find wild brook trout and young steelhead. Seven Bridges Road and Jean Duluth Road have both proven to be popular fishing spots.
3. Tischer Creek, which is also known as Congdon or Hartley Creek, has a seasonal run of fish coming from the lake up to the falls near Glensheen Mansion.
4. Upstream of Interstate 35, you’ll find a portion of Chester creek that is stocked with brown trout. The lower portion of the stream sometimes has lake-run fish, including wild brook trout.
5. Buckingham Creek has brook trout downstream of the Enger Park Golf Course, and you’ll find that the Upper Twin Pond along this stream is stocked with rainbow trout.
6. Keene Creek is a great place to go in search of wild brook trout, especially around Skyline Drive and upstream.
7. Rumors persist regarding a possible lake run of trout or salmon into the lower portion of Kingsbury Creek, but whether or not that is true, you’ll find good brown trout fishing spots at the Munger trail crossing, and along the city trail above the zoo.
8. If you’re looking for large lake-run fish, head to the mouth of Mission Creek.
9. The St. Louis River, the largest tributary of Lake Superior, is, of course, a major fishing destination in Duluth. Here, you’ll find sturgeon, smallmouth bass, walleye, perch, crappies, and other gamefish.
