2018 John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon

2018’s John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon will take place in Duluth from January 26 – 28.  At around 400 miles, this is the longest sled dog race in the lower 48 states, and is a qualifier for the famed Iditarod race in Alaska. This year, there will be over 60 mushers and their sled dog teams descending on Duluth for an exciting weekend of racing. The race will start just north of Duluth, and will slowly move north up the shores of Lake Superior to Grand Portage and back.  There’s a list of estimated times that teams will reach the various checkpoints, making it easier for spectators to monitor the progress of their favorite teams.

While you’re in town, feel free to explore the remainder of Duluth’s winter wonderland.  There are a variety of trails for cross country skiing, fat tire biking, and snowshoeing in Duluth, or maybe you’d rather catch a sporting event? The University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs hockey teams are popular.
