Pickin’ Up Steam is a contemporary acoustic quartet, which utilizes the traditional bluegrass instrumentation of guitar, mandolin, banjo, string bass and occasionally the fiddle. Each artist brings to the group a wide variety of influences, including rock, jazz, Latin, folk, country and traditional bluegrass. “The Black Stallion” (1979, rated G) is an Academy Award Winning film starring Mickey Rooney, Kelly Reno and Teri Garr. Alec, a young boy, is saved from a shipwreck by a beautiful stallion. Together they survive on an isolated island and forge a lasting bond. After their rescue they return to America where an ex-horse trainer teaches Alec to be a jockey and guides the boy and the stallion to their ultimate triumph in this sweeping and majestic drama.
The Dock Café returns as a featured Valley Cook to kick off the 2009 season. The Dock Café looks upriver to the historic Stillwater Lift Bridge and downriver to Lake St. Croix. The patio, bar and dining rooms provide unrivaled views as well as the area’s most complete menu choices.
River Market Co-op will grilling up brats and hot dogs at the Chamber Grill, beginning at 4:30 p.m. River Market will grilling on the first, third, fifth and seventh nights of Summer Tuesdays.
