The Loghouse & Homestead Bed & Breakfast on Spirit Lake is an ideal place for birdwatching, thanks to the nearby wildlife refuges and the abundance of bird houses and bird feeding stations on the property. Yet another very colorful bird you can find there is the Scarlet Tanager.
This bird is impossible to miss! It is a medium-sized bird, the males a bright red color with black wings and tail, the females instead an olive color with a yellowish underbelly. The Scarlet Tanagar is actually a relative of the Northern Cardinal! You can find them mostly foraging high in the trees, sometimes flying out to catch insects. These birds are also listed under Least Concern conservation status. Since it’s now April, you’ll be able to find the Scarlet Tanager as they fly north again for the breeding season.
Want to see a Scarlet Tanager? You can find this bird, and many more, while staying at the Loghouse & Homestead Bed & Breakfast Inn. >
