We stayed at the Alexander Mansion in Winona this week on a “busman’s holiday” and found it to be one of the undiscovered treasures of southern Minnesota and the Mississippi River Valley. We were very impressed by the magnificence of the home and great attention to detail and yet, it was warm, welcoming and affordable. Fred and Lynn, the innkeepers, were friendly and made the whole stay enjoyable, explaining what to see and do as well as where to eat. We had driven through Winona many times on our way to somewhere else but now we look forward to revisiting the town and the Alexander Mansion as a destination. Be sure to ask about the connection to Watkins which was founded in Winona in 1868 and is still operating.
