Wow! Things are really happening at Embracing Pines Bed and Breakfast . The eagle has hatched. I think that there is only one this time. I haven’t seen two of those starving faces at one time. Mom and Dad are keeping close to the nest. I don’t know if it is both of them or one of them, as I don’t know how to tell a male from a female ‘bald eagle’. If you can teach me the difference that would be greatly appreciated.
The hummingbirds are here, and enjoying the flowers in the gardens and around the yard. I have 4 feeders out on the river side, but for some reason, they sure like the flower better!
The Hummers are joined in the garden by the butterfly, and dragonfly populations. It is so fun to watch, while I am watering, they sun themselves on the rocks in the gardens. The caterpillars are on the milkweed (not in my garden!) for the Monarch butterflies. They should soon be spinning their cocoons.
We still have turtles nesting here, and it is keeping Lucy on constant alert when they ‘cruise’ into her territory. She isn’t sure that they should be there, and really doesn’t understand when her barking makes them stop and go into their shell. She is the guard dog here…..our little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel……well at least she lets us know that they are still here.
Come and watch this continuance of life with us, stay for 2 days, bring your binoculars, and we will give you a log bird house!! >
