This morning while busy with some daily chores, I heard a ‘thump’ on the window. When you have hummingbirds in your yard (or any birds for that matter), that is not a good sound. It is usually followed by another ‘thump’ if it is hummingbirds, as one is probably chasing the other one away from the feeders. This morning was very different from what I have ever seen before. I heard the first sound and turned to see what had happened, and the little guy that had indeed hit the window, and had fallen not only to the deck, but through the crack between the boards, feet up! The other little guy, that was undoubtedly chasing him, was sitting there beside him trying to help pull him out! I had called Dennis to come and witness this event, and was just wondering if I should go out and see if there was some assistance that I could bring, when the little feller, was turned upright. He was indeed, still alive and well! As soon as this happened the ‘victim’ slipped down through the crack and was able to fly out. I didn’t know that hummingbirds had first responders, but we do here at Embracing Pines B&B.
I wish that I would have had the camera, or even better the video camera with me, but that will teach me to move it away from the window…..maybe, if there is a next time, I will be quicker and have picture proof for you.
There are many ‘couples’ getting ready their nests, and soon we will have the ‘tots’ learning to fly and eat from the feeders. Come watch with us.
We have a special until May 20th, when you reserve 2 consecutive days, we will give you a $25 card for gas when you arrive. We have binoculars for you to use, if you wish! >
