You may not be ready for winter yet or even thinking about skiing. However on the Gunflint Trail at Poplar Creek we are not only thinking about this year’s cross-country ski season, we are already starting to work on our ski trails.
The BWCA’s Banadad Ski Trail starts at the B&B’s front door and each year the summer’s accumulation of brush and down trees must be cleared from the Banadad before it can be opened for skiing. Opening of the Banadad is no simple matter, it requires many hours of hard labor- some 600 to 650 hours worth. Volunteers do much of the work.
If you are interested in lending a hand in opening the Banadad this fall you can read about it in a two part series published in Boundary Country Trekking’s news blog the Edge. The first article is entitled- Last Year what it took and the second article entitled Help Needed! – BWCA Ski Trail Clearing Volunteers Sought is information on how you can volunteer for this year’s volunteer work weekends.
